The Brewer of...

The T-Wolves picked Corey Brewer during the 60th version of the NBA Draft in New York last night. I did not see the Gators play during the regular season but what I saw during the post season, especially against the Ohio State, was quite impressive. The defense this guy plays at the perimeter is absolute jaw droppin. This guy is going to be the second best player the franchise has ever seen--taking a passenger seat next to KG. The addition of Brewer will take the pressure of K.G on the defensive end of the floor. It seems like K.G. has been playing the perimeter more than he should have to lately. This has created mismatches upfront--and the T'wolves have struggled to cover up those mismatches. Last week--with it appearing that K.G. was a lock to leave town--it looked certain that the franchise was on its way out of town. Man, the draft can sure change everything. With the team picking up Brewer, there is no reason for McHale to trade K.G. The team actually could make a run in its division this year. Yeah, I know that Portland picked up Oden and Seattle picked up Durant, but those two are a couple years off from making a major impact. Yeah, the Nuggets have Carmelo and AI, but they have yet to prove that their alliance is going to work out for Denver.

So, with KG, Brewer, Foye, Craig Smith; the T'wolves have a decent chance of winning the division this year. Heck, the Celtics completed a drastic turnaround in the late 70's after Larry Bird debuted with the team (29-53 to 61-21).

I talked, briefly, last week about the new Edge uniforms that Reebok is going to infiltrate the NHL with.

After seeing a few leaked pictures of the sweaters, I am quite ambivalent towards the change. I guess I will have to see how bad Reebok/Adidas screwed up the Wild's image--it might be awhile before it's released (late August or September).

I guess replicas will go for $115. I miss the days of the $65 replica sweater.
I guess this came out early in the year. I should probably buy it; it's one of my favorite shows of all-time.

LOVE...

I remember back in the spring of my youth: the Twolves were playing the Pacers in a game that meant nothing in the standings. In the fourth quarter of the game, some rookie jumped and beat a Pacers defender for a rebound. The rookie I am talking about later developed into one of the best players of his era--or KG.

When KG grabbed that board, he did the best one armed windmail that has ever crossed my eyes. It was like you knew this kid would change the fortunes of the franchise--I wore an AND 1 shirt that year that read franchise. Little did I know but that rookie would be known as the franchise--my friends could not even pronounce what that word on my shirt read.

Loyalty is hard to come about these days. Loyalty is about Kirby Puckett signing for less to be with the team that made him a man. Loyalty is about standing up for you friends when you known that they are, in fact, dolts.

Loyalty is about unconditional love.

Bert's Head././.

I did not even know till I read the paper this morning, but Bert Blyleven had his head shaved by Johan Santana. I guess he made a bet before Tuesdays game that if Johan shutout the Mets, he would allow Santana to shave his head. I think it's great that Bert held up his end of the bet--just another reason why Bert should be in the hall of fame.

Till'da'boy'cod'hum'

Slade has to the best band of all-time. I know people give them shit for being a bunch of buffoons, but they were pretty much responsible for changing the musical landscape of the early 1970's...

Noddy Holder has to be one of my all-time heroes. He reminds me of the guy who everyone shits on for being a fuckin' maroon, but he is actually smarter than all of the mongeese who criticize his faults--and that's probably the sum of the mental capacity of the hoard.

I just started listening to some of Guy Clark's music. I guess a few of Nashville's best--Cash, Gill, Paisley-- have covered his songs. Also, Townes van Zandt was one of his buddies.
Anyone who enjoys solid songwriting or strong writing in general should check out Mr. Clark's music--or should check out anything Townes ever created.

Steve Phuc...

As of late, I have been playing quite a bit of the tecmo. My favorite team to play with has to be the 1991 Dolphins--nothing beats Marino slinging TDs to Clayton and/or Duper.

Hey, it looks like some of the NHL teams are going to release their takes on the new Edge unis this weekend.

Man, I think fans are going to raise a stink concerning the new sweater style--hockey fans have beer bellies. It kind of reminds me of when the form fitting soccer jersey was all the rage--late 90's. I remember purchasing a Tampa Bay Mutiny jersey during that period; people thought that it was a biker shirt--alas, Lance Armstrong or Greg LeMond (fart).

Twins are up-and-down; they need to start playing some consistent baseball. Santana was superb tonight; he pitched like Radke in his prime.

LG: Life is good....

Does Mick Foley have a book coming out? I guess he is going to be raslin' in datch' next WW-pee pay-per-view.

I remember my dad being upset over one of the screenames I used on AOL during the days of dialup: Wicked_alt. I guess he thought it had something to do with sorcery.

I am sorry I have neglected to discuss Selig Perlman's theory of the labor movement or capitalistic realism, but I am such a jack.

New York comes to kick ass or suck copious amounts of dick.

Nod_GINS

Reggie Roby
Mr. Roby was one of the best punters to ever kick the ball.

I remember booming the ball with Reggie in Tecmo Bowl; it would probably travel upwards of sixty yards.

May you rest in peace, Mr.Roby. I liked you even if you did play your collegiate ball at Iowa.

Ray Guy
I never saw this cat kick the ball in person or watch him kick the ball on television, but I heard some kind words concerning Mr. Guy from the great John Facenda.

I does not hurt when you are someone who has always been down with the Raider Nation--even if Al Davis still wears the windbreaker that Dennis Green wore on the sideline back in 1992.

I must apologize for the lameness of this post; I must be tired.

I drank too much Sleepy Time Tea. I must go off and visit the land of nod.

Monocle ...

About two years ago, I was almost certain that I needed a monocle to advance myself in the world; it was not to be.

Anyways, tonight I was looking at the posts I have made on this here blog and saw a picture of Peter O'Toole from the movie the ruling class; he was wearing a monocle--or it appeared he was wearing a monocle.

So, I have decided that I am going to purchase a monocle. I want to look like a fucker from Edwardian England.

All I need now is a three piece suit--I guess most people, unless they are getting married, try to avoid the three piece.

The Suit makes the man. When I walk down the street in a suit, people seem to respect me more than when I walk down the street dressed like Bill Belichick.

Mike James traded...The T'wolves get Howard, who is around eighty-five years old....

Carlos Silva shuts out the Braves....

pretty good night for the sports....

Oakmont tomorrow....

\\MuMs//

I think I got kicked in the nuts by a mule last night. When I woke up today, my sack was in a bit of pain.

Maybe it's cancer or a hernia. I should probably go and get it checked out.

Summer television is pretty lame--can't say I'm a fan of the reality show:

*Pirate Master
*The Next Best Thing
*So You Think You Can Dance
*Big Brother 99
*Hasselhoff Knows Talent
*Ex-Wives Club

Top Chef: I guess people watch it on the Bravo. From the promos, it looks like this season is going to take place in Miami.

Speaking of Pirates, Chuck Klosterman wrote an article--in 2004--about the current Pirate Renaissance occurring in the zeitgeist--it appeared in the writing compilation he released near the end of '06.

Klute--Emperors New Clothes

I just downloaded this off SLSK. It just came out in North America last Tuesday. I guess I got into Klute a couple years ago when Kute--Tom Withers--released some tracks for the breakbeat science series. I really never was into Drum+Bass before hearing Klute, but there were so many hooks and melodies in the sound--and I had to, thus, rethink my stance towards the Drum+Bass scene.

Klute, definitely, proves that Drum+Bass can be progressive, not stagnant.

Beads Girgis

Fucking Italians and their tv shows. So, the Sopranos ended its seven year run last night on the HBO.

Can someone tell me what happened?

There is some wicked oompa music that is being played outside of my house right now. It reminds me of the time when some neighbors had a two-day Oktoberfest party--could of been 2003. For two solid days, my neighbors drank and listened to some crazy oompa music--and probably ate some sausage.

I am thinking about purchasing some old polka records. I hate to admit it, but I have been listening to quite a bit of the Polka on the youtube lately. I really like the structure of the music. When I was a little guy, all the old timers were all about the polka. What would you rather listen to: Frank Yankovic or the weak beats of Scott Storch? Also, any form of music that utilizes the banjo--it stands next only to the pedal steel as the best musical instrument--has to bee alright.

Big Love..
Big Love returns to the HBO tonight. I watched the first episodes from season one last summer; I thought it was ok at first. However, after episode six, I mainly used Big Love as a tool to help me get to sleep after I finished work at one in the morning.

I have yet to read the review concerning the first couple episodes from season two. I am sure the critics are not into it.

There is quite a seraphicalness to the opening credits. The show would be more interesting if it based its episodes on the events that transpire during the opening credits. I remember the reason I watched the show during season one was because I turned on HBO right as "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys was being played to the sight of ice skating.

Movies:
Ruling Class

With Venus being released on DVD a couple weeks ago, I have been on a big Peter O'Toole kick lately. Ruling Class was movie I caught on VHS back in High School and movie that recaptured my attention when it was released by Criterion on DVD last summer. This movie is quirky as hell, and it is surly telling about our fucked up class system.

Heart--carried-by-us-all-charlatans.....

Thursday, June 7, 2007

Yesterday, I had the worst diarrhea of my entire life. I really don't know what it was that I consumed, but a couple days prior, I drank water out of a jug that I pissed in.

Here is what happened:

at 11 am my abdomen started to feel overcome with pain--felt like a hand job. Anyways, after twenty minutes, I went to the pot and spit out a pot of shit. After taking a crap, I went and laid down in my bed---and then I had to go again. I walked 20-feet towards my parents bedroom and laid some in their bathroom--I went back to my bedroom and laid some rest. 10 minutes later, I went and laid some in my bathroom. So, I must say that the cycle hummed for quite some time--and it did not include puking.

Used a 20% off coupon to purchase this from Borders:
I have read 50 pages and I am into it, so far...

06//04//07//

What's the word on the street? The word around this way is quiet for the moment. I did see Knocked Up this past weekend.

Knocked Up
I saw knocked up this weekend--actually Friday afternoon--and really enjoyed it. It was a heart felt movie that really did well in tackling the topic of early adult existentialism. The laughs were always prevalent. The crowd I saw it with, however, was more amused with the overt. I don't know why so many people lack a keen sense of humor. Judd Apatow and his cohorts have really produced some quality work the last couple years--40 year old virgin, Undeclared, Freaks and Geeks.

Apatow's movies are great in that they take a piece of real life and dress it up with humor--and we can all relate to that.

Seth Rogen is a pretty amusing character as well. I can't wait to see Superbad when it's released in August. Honestly, this has to be the summer of Rogen; he should be top of line before summers end--and Paul Rudd is pretty sweet as well.

MTV MOVIE AWARDS: the parade of comedic mediocrity.

*Robin Williams in a Kilt
*Funnyman Dane Cook being unfunny
*Mike Myers milking his shitass Austin Powers persona for a few minutes
--NOT A FUN EXPERIENCE TO BE HAD...

We will see what I can get done this week...I think I am going to go watch Undeclared on DVD...

Movie(s) of the Day:
Heavyweights:
I remember renting this movie from the Cub Foods video store back in 1994 or 1995. What attracted me to the film was the fact that it was directed by Steven Brill (MightyDucks). Concerning the Mighty Ducks, I must say that it has one of the most pleasing endings for any movie trilogy--ever. The way Bombay walks out of the arena as the Eden Hall Ducks banner is unveiled from the rafters is classic. Anyways, back to Heavyweights: Apatow and Brill wrote this movie for me back in the mid-90's--I was a fat and somewhat misunderstood pre-teen back in those days. Fast forward to 2007 and it seems like Knocked up was written for me--I am twentysomething character who has no direction in life.

Venus
Bought this from the Best Buy a couple weeks ago and have yet to finish it--watched about thirty minutes last week, but I became distracted with life. I like Peter O'Toole--Ruling Class fuckin rules--so I assume I will enjoy the rest of the movie.
